Are you your own boss? Do you work from home? Our question for you is this: What do you do each morning before you begin working?
Do you wake up early and exercise? Or do you stay in bed to the last possible moment, maybe watching an episode of your favorite Netflix series before rolling out of bed? Do you eat a hearty breakfast while reading the news and checking your email? Or do you skip breakfast, check Facebook, and look up random things on the internet?
“In a poll of 20 executives cited by Vanderkam, 90% said they wake up before 6 a.m. on weekdays.” As you can see, waking up early and being productive before you start your work is essential.
Here are a few more suggestions to help you make your mornings more productive and prepare yourself for your day at work. After you wake up early and do a little exercise, you can:
-Read a book. You can read for pleasure if you want, but we suggest a “self-help” book or a “how to sell” book.”
-Organize and plan your day. Make a to-do list with the most important or most pressing things on the top.
-Spend time with your loved ones. Talk with your spouse, help your kids get off to school or write a letter to a distant relative.
-Maybe … get started a little early. This isn’t something you should do daily or even that often. But every once in a while starting early is needed to make-up time on a heavy workload. It also might lead to you finishing a little early and having more time in the evening to spend with your family!
So whatever it is that you do to prepare yourself for work, make sure you are alert, focused and ready to go.
