Doubt can be a healthy form of fear when it stops you from taking truly crazy risks, like jumping into that swimming pool full of alligators. But when others express hesitation because of their OWN fears, listening to them can be a huge time-waster. Not only does their fear not apply to you, but lending it credence can rob you of precious hours you need to run your franchise.
Focus on your goals
Fearful voices, no matter how well-intentioned, have a way of worming themselves into your ear and badgering you. Don’t let them. Distract yourself by focusing on goals that further your dreams. Don’t just try not to listen or not pay attention. Physically do something that will distract you. Make a list of the reasons you want to become a franchise owner. Write down specific goals that will help you achieve your dream. (Research has shown that you are more likely to reach goals if you write them down.) Have you ever heard of SMART goals? These are goals that are:
S = Specific
M = Measurable
A = Achievable
R = Relevant
T = Time-bounded
A specific goal is clearly stated and narrowly focused. It should be something you can measure. Determine how you can gauge the progress toward your goal in numerical or financial terms. Your goals should be achievable. As you think about what you want to achieve as a franchise owner, set realistic goals for the future. This way you are setting yourself up for success. Make sure your goals are relevant. Do your goals tie into the key responsibilities of your franchise? Do your goals align with your objectives? Finally, set goals that are time-bound. Set target dates. It is also a good idea to set incremental deadlines to keep moving forward toward your ultimate goal.
