Is there a secret to entrepreneur success that everyone else knows, but you don’t? What if they’re all hiding it, secretly laughing at you? They may find out you’re a fraud, a fake, a phony.
Relax. That’s just entrepreneurial impostor syndrome rearing its ugly head. Here’s what to do about it.
Everyone starts in the same place
The first thing to realize about entrepreneurial impostor syndrome is that almost everyone has it at some point. That is because there’s no magic business knowledge, intuition or charisma that anyone is born with. Most entrepreneurs start out knowing very little about their business. What they do, however, is learn about it as they go along.
Everyone keeps learning
Another good way to keep entrepreneurial impostor syndrome at bay is to realize that good entrepreneurs never stop learning. The ones you admire today are still perfecting their craft, and pivoting when new information comes along.
They don’t hide shortcomings
Skillful entrepreneurs don’t hide their shortcomings. Instead, they see out expert guidance and mentors that can get them further on their journey. Trying to hide what you don’t know doesn’t make you an expert – it just makes you less likely to have the necessary information when the time comes.
